“Diabetes: Education and Prevention”

In line with its social mission, the Youth and Culture Center – Zouk Mikaël, organized in collaboration with the National Diabetes Organization (DiaLeb) a conference entitled: “Diabetes: Education and Prevention” on Saturday December 3rd, sponsored by Sanofi.

YCC director Ms. Eliane Fersan opened the conference with a welcome note, thanking the Municipality of Zouk Mikaël for its continuous engagement for supporting cultural and social activities. She than commended DiaLeb’s efforts in spreading awareness about Diabetes especially that this “silent disease” is growing into a pandemic by the year 2025.

Dr. Jackie Kassouf Maalouf, DiaLeb’s founder and president explained that DiaLeb is a non-for-profit organization founded in 2011 which aims to promote diabetes care and prevention and support research in search for a cure. To do so, DiaLeb works to promote healthy lifestyles and spread awareness about diabetes in order to make living with the disease more manageable for all those affected and their families.

Endocrinologist Dr. Najla Khoueiry, gave a lengthy presentation on diabetes prevention and ways to live a healthy life then tackled the issue of living with diabetes and ways to keep it under control.

Courtesy of Roche, 3 participants won testing machines while all were offered free testing offered by Sanofi before enjoying degustation of a Low Carb and Fat Free buffet.
